Ok, we just got the Corolla for our company car and it's awesome, only one
minor problem.

In our 93, I can fit my big purse between the driver's seat and the
passenger seat, on top of where the hand brake is, because it's flat.

In the 2002 ( seems like in all these newer models ) they put a big built-
up console compartment in the center there, with a hatch where you can
store the handgun or something, I dunno.

But I dont want that there, I want it flat like in the 93, so I can put my
big purse there and have access to it, for the cell phone and everything
else. ( a woman's purse can be considered her "command and control center",
in military terms :-)

Now I havent measured things yet, but it almost looks like that shell piece
with the box, can be removed and replaced with a flat one like the 93 has,
it even looks like the same shape and all. Can that be done?

I suppose my other option would be to have someone cut the top off the
piece that's in there and smooth what's left, so it looks decent, then I'll
have my flat area.

Ideas?

Get a smaller purse?

Assuming that you don't need immediate emergency access to everything in
your purse, take your wallet and cell phone out of the purse and put them in
the center console and the purse on the passenger side floor or trunk (where
the purse is more secure if you are in and out of the car a lot)

Install a 3M Command removable hook on the passenger side of the console, in
front of the seat and hang your purse from the hook?

If you spend a lot of time in the car, get duplicates of stuff you use a lot
or need ready access to and leave it in the center console and put your
purse where the purse or its contents are not in danger of flying around in
an accident. Or, you can get a small ditty bag for your phone, wallet,
glasses, inhaler, medication, etc. and put the small bag in the console and
put the purse in the trunk. When you are not in the car, put the ditty bag
back in your purse. Some multi-day backpacks have a removable pouch that a
hiker uses for a summit trip so they don't have to bring stuff they don't
need like pots and pans, tent, sleeping bag, etc.to the top off the hill. I
doubt that you need immediate access to hair brushes, family photos, address
book, etc. so you don't need to keep it close.

LOL! When I was in college, I dated a gal who carried a purse that looked
like it had the same capacity as a small gym bag. The only thing I recall
her getting out of the purse was her keys and ID, so I don't know what else
lurked in that bag.

Needs enough room for my XD-45 ACP.

See above. :-)

If I could fit the AK-47 or the 12 gauge Persuader in there, I would. :)

But for now, the XD-45 ACP will have to do.
