From: homepc on 19 Mar 2010 12:22 I was sort of waiting for this to happen: http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2010-03-18-toyota18_ST_N.htm http://www.freep.com/article/20100317/BUSINESS01/100317078/1319/Toyota-mulls-fix-in-1.2M-Corolla-Matrix-models http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2010/03/toyota-considers-new-recall-for-corolla-matrix.html The chances of the engine control module going sideways are very slim, but it would be nice if the known defective modules would be replaced before getting caught out on a deserted stretch of highway or a busy street during rush hour. I'll have to ask my dealer about it when I go in for my spring oil change.

The chances of occurence are very low. In documents submitted to NHTSA Toyota projected a 10 year cumulative failure rate of less than 1% for two problems related to the defective modules. I wouldn't worry about the problem unless it turns out Toyota has underestimated the failure rate. There is a TSB (TC015-07) related to problems with the Corolla ECM, so maybe you could ask your dealer if it applies to your car. It doesn't address the stalling issue, but it does address an ECM related shifting concerns that is realted to the same porblems inside the ECM. A copy of the TSB is at http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/johnduh/2008-04-01_175019_T-TC015-07.pdf . Ed
