From: Ray on 20 Oct 2009 14:17 I have a 2000 Avalon sometimes fails to start. When the key is turned there is one click. On the second try it usually starts. The local Toyota dealer says he wants $100 to diagnose the problem, but being intermittent he still wants the money even if he can't find any problem. How likely is it to be a failing starter solenoid? What should that cost? Thanks Ray

If you are willing to do some work yourself, you can fix it for under $40. If you want to replace the starter yourself, the price will be higher. -- Ray O (correct punctuation to reply)

More likely you need to clean all of the battery connections.
